“I had to look into the eye of the fear.”

Zomers komt Olga Petersen (1939) bijna elk weekend vanuit Keulen naar Ruigoord rijden. In een soort tempeltje naast de kerk ontvangt de  ‘Mistress of Divine Craziness’ in een roze gewaad mensen met wie ze woordloos en met woorden communiceert.

Olga’s vader was Wehrmachtsoldaat en kwam om. Haar moeder voedde de vier kinderen alleen op. Bij de bevrijding door de Russen werd Olga in een kast gestopt. ‘My soul needed all this drama in my life’, denkt ze nu.

Tien jaar gleden voelde ze zich eenzaam in haar huwelijk en ‘full of fear’. Voor haar 60ste verjaardag kreeg ze van vrienden een parachutesprong cadeau en besloot ze de angst recht in de ogen te zien. ‘I am ready to reincarnate’, bad ze voor de sprong vanaf 4000 meter. Na haar landing besloot ze dat ze zich geheel ging toe leggen op het zoeken naar de god in zichzelf en anderen, mede met hulp van visioenopwekkende planten.

Olga Petersen (b. 1939) visits Ruigoord from Cologne almost every weekend in summer. The Mistress of Divine Craziness receives people with whom she communicates wordlessly and with words in a kind of temple next to the church.

Olga’s father was a soldier in the German armed forces and killed in the war, leaving her mother to raise four children. When liberated by the Russians, Olga hid in a closet. “My soul needed all this drama”, she now feels.

In her marriage ten years ago, she felt lonely and full of fear, and after a parachute jump on her 60th birthday, a present given by her friends, she decided to face up to her fears. Before jumping from 4,000 metres she prayed ‘I am ready to reincarnate’. After landing, she decided to dedicate herself entirely to searching for the god in herself and in others, sometimes with the aid of hallucinogenic plants.
